AOL keyword

Was checking out the "known issues" document for the latest AOL beta and noticed a feature that might come in handy:

In AOL, if you open the AOL keyword prompt and enter "browser", then the AOL host will return the AOL client version *plus* the version of the browser engine that's currently being used by your AOL client. Neat and useful for when you're not exactly sure what's on the machine you are testing, or if you are trying to debug an AOL problem remotely with a client or user.

Unfortunately, in OS X it returns "AOL 5 + IE 4.01", which of course is incorrect (should be AOL 5 + IE 5.x) and thus noted in the Known Issues document. ;)

Note: You can invoke the AOL Keyword prompt on the Mac with the CMD-K key combination or CTRL-K on Win. With newer AOL clients, you can type "browser" in the Location bar (where you'd normally type in a URL) and get the same results.

Folks, this is not an AOL page or service. You might be using AOL to view this page, but that doesn't mean this site is part of AOL.

Sorry, but I can't much help you with AOL billing questions, nor can you enter AOL keywords here, or redeem Service Awards.

But if you need to enter an AOL keyword, here's how you do it while in the AOL client:

WINDOWS USERS: hold down the "CNTRL" key, and while continuing to hold the "CNTRL" key down, then press the "K" key. This should open up a Keyword window where you can then enter "Billing" or whatever keyword shortcut you are attempting to use.

MAC USERS: Same as above except substitute the "Apple" key (AKA, the CMD or Command key) for "CNTRL".

Seems like a problem area for a lot of folks.

When you attempt to use keywords in the location bar (where you'd normally type in a URL), make sure that you are using a newer version of AOL and AOL's own built-in browser and not a standalone browser like IE or Netscape.

When using the keyboard-shortcut method to open the Keyword window, make sure you are using the appropriate key combination for your computer type and make sure that AOL is the active application.

If none of this is working for you, it's time to call AOL directly.

Worth noting is the AOL Feedback page, where you can post general questions, comments, etc., but if you can't make keywords work, I'd recommend calling one of the phone numbers listed above.

I hate to tell you guys this, but a) I don't think this is an AOL site, and therefore your complaints are unheard by AOL; and b) if you're not using AOL's software (you know, the free disk that you can get anywhere), then you can't get to "Keyword." "Keyword" does not appear in Internet Explorer or whatever browser you're using unless it's AOL's. I already redeemed my awards, no problem. Hope this helps.

Finding the Awards Center to redeem my free service has been extremely difficult and confusing. I spoke with a rep who assured me that it would "only take a minute". Well it has been almost 30 minutes and I still have not completed the redemption process. This has been utter confusion. HELP HELP HELP!!!

I am in a situation of relocating back to Ohio from Texas due to military transfer; my computer will be shipped in August and I will not be able to be assured of my AOL use until perhaps late August or early September. I would like to know if I am eligible for AOL Award for the months of August and September for my AOL bill?

I have been trying for the last three weeks to redeem my two months free service without success. I think this is just a scam by aol to retain me and other customers who have problems redeeming their free service. When I called aol to cancel my account, I was offered the two months free service. But when I tried to redeem them, I was never sucessful. AOL, please just give the free service by doing it manually. I have called aol customer service several times about this problem.

AOL Service Award, Award Center, which ever anyone tries nothing seems to work. My suggestion is to call the Head Honcho, the corporate office, the president of the company, what ever you want to call him/her. And tell them about these FREE x amount of months that our Reps said to us. For when we were to go to that particular site. I have read ALL your comments and this is rediculous. THIS NEEDS TO STOP. AOL needs to fix this/there problems, regarding AOL service Award. If people like ourself complain to the Head Honcho, corporate office, maybe they will do something about this/there problem.

I am writting because I was told by aol to click on award center and push a yellow button and they would pay for two months of my service... I got suckered too, trying to use the Website to find the keywords. AOL should consider offering the full service via standard browzers, the website user interface looks fine. I have no intention of risking loading an AOL disk on my computers. AOL is limiting its market.

Of course, the folks above don't have a clue. AOL is SUPPOSED to be for those who aren't computer literate.

THIS IS NOT AOL. The Award Center cannot be accessed from a normal internet browser. It can only be accessed from within the AOL software. If you do not have access to the AOL software, then call AOL to complain.

I discovered I had been billed by AOL for 12 months. The phone rep confirmsed I had not signed on at all this year. Again, like others, the phone rep could not offer a credit back on my charge card, but would give me credit for 6 free months at the "Awards Center." Just one problem...there is no space labeled "Keyword" for me to type in "Awards Center"
Someone should email this webpage to potential investors in AOL Time Warner...they'd run away like rabbits.

I called to cancel my account today because of the lack of customer service. Finally when I did reach a "live" person, she talked me into staying with AOL with the promise of 2 months free by going to the AOL Awards Center, which can not be reached. If I can not reach this center I will cancel AOL Immediately.

Some truths you should know:

1) This site is not AOL.

2) The administrator here cannot do anything about your problems

3) If you people have this much trouble accessing a simple AOL keyword, I have to ask, how the heck did you manage to turn your computer on?!

4) Once, again, this site has nothing to do w/ AOL, people have stated this multiple times, if you're this thick-skulled about whether or not AOL runs this site & are still completely clueles, than I sure hope you don't drive... who knows what you'd be like in a car...!!!

Oh, and by the way, I'm not on the AOL staff and don't exactly care for AOL, but I also know BS when I see it, and all you people are giving is a bunch of BS.

AOL's service award system is very easy to use, and if you retards can't figure out how to use it, I'm going to be brutally honest, you shouldn't be using a computer.

If anyone needs help, you should just call in and patiently talk w/ the suport personnel. AOL's support services are among the best there are, even though you idiots apparently expect them to meet your every want, need or desire. Have you ever tried calling Microsoft to ask them for help when your computer crashes?!
Firstly, it's a 900 # (as opposed to AOL's 800 #), so you're paying to call them. Secondly, there support personnel are terrible & have aweful training. Do you think it's a coincidence that MS is losing its footing in the software market? Yeah, they cover it well, most people don't even realize it, but MS is getting a little uneasy if you check reports. AOL isn't wonderful, but it's not bad for you newbies.
You can't be a power user and completely computer illiterate at the same time. AOL was meant for computer illiterate people, just like Microsoft Windows. Both compromise greatly on things like stability, reliability, speed & performance, security and cost in order to provide a super-user-friendly product.

I spoke with representative and was told to go into the computer to redeeemd award center, however AOL will not allow me too and I'm unable to get my credit promised to me. Today is September 27, 2003 and I supposedly was credited up to December 6, 2003. This is very bad P.R. and makes me want to drop your services in a heartbeat! I believe that I will sign up with MSN if you don't honor your awards to me.

We signed up for two months free AOL and had our computer crash on us, which enabled us to even get our two months free, I contacted customer service, and told them the problem, I was told that we would not be charged and nothing would go through to our account and that we would have four months free service. Also receiveed a letter from AOL Awards Center stating that our Service Awards expire on 3/12/2003, and we just signed up for our free trial in July of 2003, What is up with this company!!!!!!!!

somebody had already given free aol service upto 11-16-03 but due to mistake some one charged from my credit card account $23.90. please return it.

I am still unable to get my free months and I am not sure what the deal is. Don't tell me that I will be able to get them and then I can't. It makes this service look like shit and obviously you have some unhappy customers(including myself)
